About Treebytree

Treebytree is a simple way to grow trees and restore nature, from your screen. We make it easy for anyone (businesses and individuals) to adopt and gift trees, and track their impact, all in a few clicks.

Our trees are part of genuine regreening projects in areas that need them most, supported by local farmers and communities. Whether you’re adopting or gifting trees, you’re helping restore land and fight climate change, tree by tree.

Treebytree was founded in 2022 out of a simple belief: that restoring nature should be easy, something everyone can take part in and feel good about. From the start we wanted every contribution to feel personal and meaningful. To bring this vision to life we combined strong partnerships with local organisations who know their land best with technology that ensures transparency and storytelling for every tree. This way people can connect not only with their tree, but also with the farmer and the wider regeneration story it is part of.

We began with a focus on the corporate gifting industry. This multi billion dollar market is often filled with wasteful and polluting products, yet it holds enormous potential to create positive change by switching to gifting trees. By turning gifting into a way to give back to the planet Treebytree helps companies replace disposable items with meaningful impact that lasts.

In early 2025 we opened our platform to individuals as well, making it possible for anyone who wants to do good to contribute directly to nature regeneration in a way that feels visible, personal, and real.

A social enterprise is a business that puts purpose first. Revenue matters because sustainability requires resources, but financial goals sit side by side with environmental and social ones. Success is not only measured in sales but also in the positive impact created.

Treebytree chose to be a social enterprise because we believe business should be a force for good. Every choice we make, big or small, is guided by this belief. By working this way we ensure that our mission to regenerate nature and support communities is always at the heart of what we do, and the profit we generate is reinvested into growing that impact.

We chose this path because it reflects what we stand for: using business as a force for good. B Corp certification shows our clients, partners, and community that impact is not an afterthought but part of our DNA. You can read more about our certification and score on our [B Corp page].

Treebytree has been a certified B Corp since 2025. This means we meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Becoming a B Corp is not just a label. It is a rigorous process that evaluates how we treat people, the planet, and how we run our business.

Treebytree focuses on high quality regeneration rather than just planting trees. We personally handpick our projects and only work with trustworthy partners who take social impact, improved livelihoods, and healthy biodiversity into account. Because monocultures can harm ecosystems, we collaborate with knowledgeable partners who truly understand the landscapes they restore.

Every is connected to a unique geo-location, linked to the farmer who planted and cares for it, and accompanied by information about the tree species. This way you can follow your tree’s journey and connect with the wider regeneration story it is part of.

Finally, we make regeneration easy and meaningful for both companies and individuals. Companies can grow a branded company forest and gift branded trees in personalised ways for many different use cases. Individuals can adopt or gift trees in just a few clicks, joining a global movement to restore nature tree by tree.

Partners & Projects

We work with trusted local organisations who have deep knowledge of their landscapes and communities. At this moment our main partners are:

  • Justdiggit – in Tanzania, who empower thousands of farmers to bring back trees through Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), helping restore degraded land and boost biodiversity.

  • Bôndy – in Madagascar, who run community nurseries and train farmers to plant and care for a mix of forest, fruit, and cash crop species, combining ecological restoration with stronger livelihoods.

  • Selva – in Ecuador, who work directly with Indigenous communities to co-design restoration projects that regenerate forests, protect biodiversity, and create social benefits.

Each of them combines ecological expertise with community engagement to ensure that regeneration benefits both nature and people.

We carefully handpick our partners because the quality of the project defines the quality of the impact. We only work with organisations we trust, who have deep local knowledge and a proven track record in ecosystem restoration. Our partners must combine ecological expertise with strong community engagement, ensuring that regeneration supports both nature and people.

Visiting the projects we work with in person is a must for us. This allows us to see their methods first-hand, build relationships, and make sure there is a strong fit with our values. We look closely at how biodiversity, soil, and water are cared for and we avoid harmful practices like monocultures. By choosing partners this way we ensure every tree adoption contributes to lasting regeneration and thriving communities.

At this moment our projects are in Ecuador, Madagascar, and Tanzania. These are places where regeneration is needed most and where restoring trees has an immediate impact on both nature and people. The land in these regions has been heavily degraded, and with the right care it can be brought back to life.

We also choose sites where social impact can be created. Local communities benefit directly through healthier soils, more secure food and water, and stronger livelihoods. By focusing on these areas we make sure every tree contributes to ecological recovery and to the wellbeing of the people who live there.

The trees are cared for by local farmers, women’s groups, and Indigenous communities who live in the project areas. Our partners provide training and guidance so that farmers know how to select, plant, prune, and protect the trees.

In Tanzania, for example, Justdiggit works with thousands of smallholder farmers who regenerate trees through Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration, while in Madagascar Bôndy supports communities with nurseries and restoration training. In Ecuador, Selva works directly with Indigenous communities through co-designed restoration plans. This local stewardship ensures that every tree is part of daily life and cared for in the long term.

Farmers and communities are supported in different ways depending on the project, but the focus is always on fair benefits and lasting livelihoods. Support can include training, tools, seedlings or nurseries, and ongoing technical guidance.

In Tanzania, Justdiggit’s FMNR approach gives farmers the skills to regrow and manage trees in ways that improve both land and harvests. In Madagascar, Bôndy’s community nurseries provide fruit and cash crop species that benefit families as well as the environment. In Ecuador, Selva integrates employment and shared benefit agreements into their restoration projects with Indigenous partners.

By combining ecological restoration with livelihood opportunities, farmers are fairly supported to keep the trees and landscapes thriving.

The techniques we use depend on the landscape and the needs of local communities, but the goal is always the same: to bring ecosystems back to life in a way that lasts. In Tanzania we work with Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), where farmers protect and prune existing root systems so trees can regrow naturally. In Madagascar, our partner Bôndy runs community nurseries that provide a mix of forest, fruit, and cash crop species, which are then planted and cared for by local farmers. In Ecuador, Selva works directly with Indigenous communities to co-design restoration methods that combine planting, natural regeneration, and forest protection.

Across all projects, regeneration means more than planting a tree. It is about improving soil health, supporting water cycles, bringing back biodiversity, and creating stronger livelihoods. By using techniques that work with nature and are rooted in local knowledge, we ensure restoration is resilient and long term.

Our projects are based in Tanzania, Madagascar, and Ecuador. These are often remote areas that can be difficult to reach, and in some cases the political or economic situation makes travel less safe. Because of this, we cannot facilitate visits for individual adopters or companies.

What we can do is keep the connection alive in a different way. Every tree comes with a geo location, a farmer story, and updates from our partners, all available on your impact page. This way you can follow the work on the ground and feel part of the community and the wider regeneration story, without needing to travel there yourself.

Impact & Science

Across the world land is being degraded by deforestation, overuse, and climate change. When soils dry out and forests disappear, it becomes harder for people to grow food, store water, and maintain healthy livelihoods. Biodiversity is lost, carbon is released into the atmosphere, and communities are left more vulnerable to droughts, floods, and poverty.

Restoring trees is one of the most effective ways to reverse this. Trees absorb carbon, cool the land, and bring water cycles back to life. Their roots hold soil together and enrich it, making farming possible again. They provide shade, food, and shelter for people and wildlife alike.

When done in a regenerative way, ecosystem restoration boosts biodiversity, strengthens local communities, and creates resilience against climate change. This is why Treebytree focuses on projects in places where regeneration is needed most and where social impact can grow alongside ecological recovery.

Every tree is different, and absorption depends on species, size, soil, and climate. To stay scientifically correct, we use internationally recognised methods (IPCC guidelines, Chave et al. 2014 allometric models, and the Global Wood Density Database) combined with data from our NGO partners.

For clarity and consistency, Treebytree applies one harmonised figure:
  • 240 kg CO₂ absorbed over 20 years per tree
  • 80% survival rate applied
  • Linear growth assumption

This number is illustrative and based on averages across large areas, not a guarantee for each individual tree. It is also non-compensatory; we do not sell offsets.

When trees are restored in the right way they bring ecosystems back to life. They provide food, shelter, and nesting space for birds, insects, and animals. Pollinators thrive, seed dispersal increases, and native plants find their way back into the landscape. Over time the return of trees creates a balanced system where species support each other, leading to healthier and more resilient ecosystems.

At Treebytree we make sure this happens by working only with trusted partners who understand their land and avoid monocultures. Instead, they restore a diversity of species that strengthen biodiversity and create space for life to flourish.

The benefits of trees reach far beyond the tree itself.

For people, trees mean food, shade, income, and security. Farmers can grow healthier crops in cooler, fertile soils. Communities gain better livelihoods and resilience in the face of climate challenges.

For soil, trees prevent erosion, enrich fertility through organic matter, and restore the underground life of fungi, microbes, and insects. Healthy soil sustains both crops and native vegetation.

For water, trees help rainfall soak into the ground, replenish groundwater, and restore natural water cycles. Their shade reduces evaporation while their roots slow runoff, lowering the risk of floods and droughts.

By combining these effects, tree regeneration strengthens the entire system people and nature depend on.

Regeneration means going beyond planting trees to restoring the living systems that sustain life. In practice it is about bringing soil back to health, improving water cycles, and creating space for biodiversity to return. It is also about supporting local communities with new opportunities for food, shade, and income so that people and nature can thrive together.

At Treebytree regeneration looks like farmers planting and caring for diverse trees, water being captured and stored in the ground, crops growing better under the shade of trees, and birds and insects returning. It is a holistic approach where every tree is part of a bigger story of healing land and strengthening livelihoods.

Treebytree contributes directly to six Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): No Poverty (1), Zero Hunger (2), Clean Water and Sanitation (6), Decent Work and Economic Growth (8), Climate Action (13), and Life on Land (15).

These are the areas where our ecosystem regeneration and community partnerships create measurable impact. Other SDGs, such as Gender Equality (5), Responsible Consumption and Production (12), and Partnerships for the Goals (17), are also relevant in some contexts, but we see them as secondary contributions.

Primary SDGs we support:

  • SDG 1: No Poverty – Farmers and local communities benefit directly through improved land productivity and income.
  • SDG 2: Zero Hunger – Healthier soils and microclimates improve crop yields. Fruit and multipurpose trees provide nutrition and income.
  • SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation – Tree cover restores infiltration and groundwater recharge, reducing erosion and protecting water quality.
  • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth – Nurseries, planting, and restoration create fair jobs and skills development.
  • SDG 13: Climate Action – Regenerated ecosystems store carbon, cool land, and strengthen resilience to climate extremes.
  • SDG 15: Life on Land – Tree regrowth restores biodiversity, stabilises soils, and prevents desertification.

Our reporting reflects landscape-level ecological outcomes. They are illustrative and non-compensatory, rather than per-tree guarantees.

Adopting & Gifting

Adopting a tree with Treebytree is simple. You choose a tree from one of our projects, the one you feel most connected to. And if you want to broaden your impact, you can adopt trees across several projects and become part of different regeneration stories at the same time. With just a few clicks your adoption is complete.

Every tree is added to your personal impact page. There you can see the tree’s geo location, its species, information about the farmer who takes care of it, and read stories from the wider regeneration chain it is part of. Adoption is designed to be easy for you while creating impact that is lasting and personal. And if you want, you can gift your adopted tree to someone else, turning your impact into a meaningful present.

The trees are owned by the local farmers and communities who plant and care for them. This is important because ownership gives them direct benefits and responsibility, which ensures that the trees are protected and valued for the long term.

When you adopt or gift a tree you make regeneration possible and follow its journey, but the tree itself remains in the hands of the people who live with it every day. This way adoption supports both nature and the livelihoods of the communities who care for it.

After adopting a tree you will receive access to your personal impact page. There you can see the tree’s geo location, information about its species, details about the farmer who cares for it, and stories from the project it is part of. All of this is available straight away, so you can immediately connect with the wider regeneration story your tree contributes to.

You also have the option to gift your adopted tree to someone else. This way what you receive is not only a personal connection to regeneration, but also the chance to turn your impact into a meaningful present for someone special.

Gifting a tree is simple. You choose a tree from one of our projects and dedicate it to someone special. With just a few clicks the gift is created, sent to their email and added to your personal impact page. You can also personalise it by adding a message and a picture, making the gift truly your own.

The recipient receives a personalised card in their inbox with your message. This card leads them to a unique gifting experience where they can meet their tree, give it a name, and access their very own impact page. There they can see the tree’s geo location, learn about the species, connect with the farmer who cares for it, and discover the wider regeneration story.

Because it is a gift that keeps on growing. A tree is alive, growing stronger every day, and becomes part of the landscape and the community that cares for it. Unlike short lived gifts, it grows with you and leaves a lasting impact on nature and people.

That is why a tree is such a powerful symbol. It can mark a new beginning, celebrate love, or keep a memory alive. It is a way to give something lasting, personal, and connected to the world we share.

Trust & Privacy

We treat your personal data with care and only use it to provide the services you choose, such as managing your trees or sending updates. We do not sell or misuse data, and we follow the standards of the GDPR to make sure your information is protected.

For all details you can read our full privacy policy and cookie policy.

Contributions

Adopting a tree starts at €6. The exact amount depends on the tree you select and the project it is part of. Each contribution may feel small, but together they add up to a big impact.

At the moment we do not offer subscriptions, but we are working on it. We know many people want to do good on a regular basis, and we want to make it easy to grow your forest tree by tree.

Every contribution you make is divided across three main areas that together make regeneration possible:

  • Local partners and communities – The largest share goes to our trusted partners who work directly with farmers and communities. This covers training, nurseries, tools, and ongoing support to make sure trees survive and ecosystems thrive.

  • Treebytree operations – A part is used to keep our platform running, develop the gifting experience, provide transparent impact reporting, and offer support to our community of adopters and companies.

  • Awareness and growth – A smaller share helps us grow the movement, so that more land is restored and more communities can benefit.

We do not present “100%” claims because real regeneration requires training, follow-up, and infrastructure. Every euro is used to maximise both ecological and social impact over the long term.

Treebytree is a social enterprise and not a charity, which means contributions are not tax deductible.

For a seamless connection we offer an API, which makes it easy to integrate tree gifting directly into your own platforms or customer journeys.

Companies can also work with us as distributors, offering trees as part of their own services or product ranges.

We work with you to make it simple and personal. Whether you want to celebrate milestones, engage your team, connect with customers in a new way, or become a distributor, Treebytree helps you turn business moments into lasting impact.

No. Treebytree does not sell carbon credits or offsets. Our focus is on regeneration that restores ecosystems, improves biodiversity, and supports local communities.

Every tree does absorb carbon, and we track this as part of our impact reporting, but we do not frame it as a tradable credit. For us the value of a tree goes far beyond carbon, and we believe its impact is strongest when seen in the full picture of soil, water, biodiversity, and livelihoods.

Yes. Our API makes it easy to integrate tree adoption directly into your own platforms or customer journeys. You can let each purchase grow a tree, reward reviewers, add a tree at checkout, or even grow a tree for every new customer. This way regeneration becomes part of your daily business flow without extra effort.

Yes. Our platform makes it as easy to send one tree or ten thousand with the same little effort. You can use bulk sending for all kinds of occasions: birthdays, work anniversaries, new hires, or company wide celebrations. It is also perfect for events, where you can gift trees to every guest, or for HR and loyalty programs where you want to engage many people at once.

Yes. Every business contribution comes with transparent reporting that shows the number of trees, the projects they are part of, and the wider outcomes for soil, water, biodiversity, and communities. These figures represent area-based ecological restoration outcomes rather than per-tree guarantees, and they are illustrative and non-compensatory. While not a certified carbon offset, this reporting provides credible, verifiable data. Companies use it in their ESG communication and to share their impact story with employees, clients, and stakeholders.
