100 million people

Every day, we’re surrounded by headlines about the climate crisis, biodiversity loss, and ecosystems under stress. In the middle of it all you might wonder: what difference can I actually make? The answer isn’t in saving the world single-handedly.

Our power lies in acting together.

Because when many people take small but meaningful steps, impact can be made in giant leaps.

Our mission is to help 100 million people restore a tree. It might seem like an astronomical number, so let us break it down for you!

It starts with one tree

Picture it: you help a struggling tree in your backyard by watering it, or you give a tree gift to a friend or family member. It’s a small gesture, nothing world-changing on its own. But that tree starts doing its quiet work. It pulls carbon from the air, offers shelter to birds, cools the ground, and holds the soil in place. Maybe you even forget about your gesture next week, but the tree keeps on working for years. A steady journey of impact has begun.

Now imagine millions of people doing the same. Each adding their small gesture to the total. Suddenly, we’re not talking about one nice gesture anymore, but whole ecosystems coming to life.

What does 100 million trees look like?

Close your eyes. No just kidding, that would become a difficult read!

You’re standing on a mountain before a vast landscape. The view is one big stretch of open ground. Bare, dry, exhausted. Now picture it slowly filling with trees. First, a few dozen. Then hundreds. Then thousands. Before long, the horizon shifts, and green spreads to every corner where there was once nothing.

We’re not talking about just a few trees anymore. Did you know that 100 million trees can form a border around the entire European continent? .… 4 times over!

And what about what’s happening beneath those trees? The air cools. Water sinks back into the soil. Birds, insects and other animals return. People working the land have income and food security. Carbon quietly disappears from the atmosphere.

That’s the kind of change we’re talking about when 100 million people come together and add one tree a year. For us it’s not just a number. It’s a dream that can turn into reality through the power of many.

Did you know that restoring just 15% of degraded land worldwide could prevent up to 60% of expected species extinctions? We’re not only saving trees, but entire ecosystems! (UN Environment Program)

Doing more, and doing it better

Not every tree survives, and not every place needs trees. That’s why Treebytree works with credible partners and local farmers to ensure that our efforts focus on places where the impact will be the greatest.

When you gift a digital tree, you’re supporting real-world restoration that is designed to last. You’re not just giving a gift. You’re helping nature strive.

Why 100 million people matters

Aiming for perfection is a fool’s errand. We prefer aiming for participation.

If 100 million people each give or support one tree per year, we can start a wave of regeneration that’s both achievable and impactful. It’s a quiet but powerful way of saying: ‘we care about the future, and we’re ready to back it with action!’
